Apple will reportedly use the optically clear adhesive (OCA) to achieve a crease-free touchscreen on its first foldable handset, according to a report. This specially optimised glue usually comes in handy for bonding glass. In the smartphone industry, OCA is often used for creating a bond between the protective films and the display glass, since it is not visible to the naked eye. However, Apple will reportedly leverage the adhesive’s viscoelastic properties, which determine how much deformation any material can undergo before breaking.
